Odo Scholarship 2021 Entry #1

Entry #1

I’ve always been curious to learn the stories of a place, the cultures and histories which converge at a single point in space. What are the narratives which swarm this ground? What memories have been made here? Each of my projects is an attempt to speak to these contexts: a new chapter in an old book, if you will, which picks up threads of old storylines and from these weaves a new tale.

In this way, I strive to understand not only the identities embodied in a site, but its shortcomings as well. Whether it’s in an industrial city born and powered by the Mississippi or a historic Italian town whose economy stands on the backs of tourists, I try to connect to these histories through design. I believe this approach breeds architecture that is not only useful and interesting, but empathetic and remedial as well.
