Robert Condia (2009)

"Not Simply Every Sunset Over Eden suggests that imagination can be a terrible thing. Cataloged are 31 complex watercolor illustrations; and 17 Dinner Sketches finger painted in ink, wine and coffee. The designs are small exigent pages made by the hands while under the influence of a poetic will. The images are proposed of an architect’s imagination and interrogated by close inspection. There is poetic intent: that each illustration carry a 3-way burden of face, place, and horizon. A face is what it seems, a mask looking back at you from the page. The invitation of human scale into the scene is making place. A collection which tenders a glimpse into an imagination revealed as illustrated daydreams of poetic caption."

Robert Condia (B.Arch 80), AIA, LEED AP, is Professor at the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, at Kansas State University, and partner and design principal with Condia + Ornelas Architects in Manhattan, KS. 100 Hotels + Resorts: destinations that lift the spirit (2008)

Image of the cover of the 2006-2007 Faculty Scholarship publication

"For more than 60 years, the destination firm WATG has not been following trends; it has been setting them. Rejecting the idea that a hotel has to look functional to be functional, WATG has deconstructed the old notions about what made a hotel or resort popular and profitable. WATG stopped seeing architecture as a barrier and rethought it as a strategic interface between the world without and the word within What WATG has taught guest, managers, and investors is that different is better, and that memorable is better still."

Architect Ron van Pelt (B.Arch 1976), AIA, LEED AP, is a principal of the Irvine WATG office. 100 Hotels+ Resorts: destinations that lift the spirit can be purchased at 100HotelsAmazon.com web page.

LPA (2005)

Image of the cover of Mainstream Green book

"The green building movement is one born of passion—of the desire to make a radical change in the way we think about and design buildings. Just over a decade ago, before we founded the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a growing awareness of the huge threats posed to our natural world by our built environment made it obvious that radical change was imperative. less obvious was how to make that change happen—we needed a way to turn our passion into the transformation of an entire industry and lead a national consensus on green building, and 12 years later the transformation is well underway. Firms like LPA have been instrumental in that transformation, helping to make "green" an indispensable part of our lexicon..."
