The Department of Architecture's Open House, held April 7-15, is a great opportunity for prospective students and their supporters to learn more about what makes our top-ranked program unique, and meet students, faculty and administrators. We'll share lots of information and give you time to ask questions, plus there will be some fun learn-by-doing activities lead by our students.

ARCHITECTURE Open House: The Student Perspective and After Party

Architecture students will give an overview of the program, a tour, present examples of student work and answer your questions. They'll also lead some fun design activities that capture Cal Poly's Learn by Doing philosophy (see some of the activity descriptions below).

Also, don't miss the "After Party" at 6 pm, where prospective students can meet and interact with current students in breakout rooms.

Activity: Design a Home | 4/15/21 @ 5:30 pm

In breakout rooms of eight, participants will be provided a unique client and tasked with designing a home for that client. Using Google Jamboard, they will work together in making a rough plan and sketch for their designs.

Activity: Virtual Scavenger Hunt | 4/15/21 @ 5:30 pm

Hidden items are scattered throughout the website gallery. In breakout rooms of four, participants will be given a Google Form with a checklist of items to find. The team that finishes first or finds the most items wins.

Activity: One Line | Thursday 4/15/21 @ 5:30 pm

In breakout rooms of eight, prospective students will be given a word to draw using Zoom’s annotate tool. Each person will take turns drawing one line until the prompt has been completed, or the allotted time has run out.

Activity: Blind Contour Portraits | 4/15/21 @ 5:30 pm

Attendees will draw blind contours of screen shared images of professors posing. In the middle of each drawing, attendees will switch hands.
