Odo Scholarship 2021 Entry #18
My design approach is rooted in thinking through making. Shifting from the order of the building to exploring ideas at the human and handheld scale, gives me the chance to play with new materials, work through orders of operation and design thoughtful connections. Since starting at Cal Poly I have pushed myself to learn new methods of fabrication from aluminum casting to vertical milling and machining. Having the chance to use these skills and obsess over a small object or model is often what gets me interested and motivated to work through a prompt. From project to project, I like to use different design languages while still maintaining a focus on minimalism, human experience and materiality. The idea of not having a ‘style’ that is associated with myself is something that I am always pushing to achieve.
